Nutz Aiono, Scaffolding
Apinati “Nutz” Aiono, Manager of Scaffold Operations in Rock Springs, joined Great Basin Nation in 2014. Prior to moving to the U.S. in 1990, Nutz grew up in Samoa as the oldest child in a family of 9. He started in the scaffold and insulation industry in the early 1990’s and progressively moved up through the ranks to Superintendent and Project Manager. Some of the major projects he completed include the Micron plant and the Newmont Gold expansion.
Nutz has worked at the Rock Springs Simplot plant for the past 21 years. Simply put, the Simplot managers insist on having Nutz and his crews there for all their scaffold work, and would never allow them to leave. His crews have an excellent quality and safety record, and are also widely celebrated for the sweet harmonies of their singing every morning.
His family lives in Salt Lake City, and he has 7 children who can make things hectic around the house; but regardless, Nutz said he wouldn’t trade any of them. When he does manage to get some spare time, Nutz enjoys rugby and spending time with his family.
Nutz is also an accomplished chef who, along with his crew, puts together the annual pig roasts for Rock Springs. When Nuts isn’t on the job site you can find him shuffling around in his steel-toed flip-flops.
